The program is an initiative of Women of Influence, an award-winning North American organization dedicated to advancing Canadian women. "I am deeply honoured to have been recognized by the Women of Influence, and to be in the company of so many extraordinary women leaders," Martini-Miles said. Lighthouse was founded in 1999 and provides support groups for children, youths, and their families following a death in the immediate family. The Charitable Giving Award for which Martini-Miles is a finalist is new for 2014 and recognizes a leader of a not-for-profit or charitable organization. Other categories include the Deloitte StartUp Award, RBC Momentum Award, MicroBusiness Award, Telus Trailblazer Award and PROFIT Award for Excellence in Entrepreneurship. Martini-Miles has served as Lighthouse's executive director since 2011 after coming from the same role at Oakville CommUnity Art Space. Each nominee's application was reviewed and judged by a panel of business leaders and subject to a due diligence performed by Deloitte Private Client Services. "We are proud to celebrate women entrepreneurs in Canada," said Carolyn Lawrence, president and CEO, Women of Influence. "By recognizing them at the RBC Canadian Women Entrepreneur Awards Gala, we build their success, provide exposure for Canada's diverse array of talent and provide more female role models for future leaders."
