But after visiting Star Scoops, previously known as What's the Scoop? located at 200 Lakeshore Rd., I might have to change my regular routine. Although nutritionists might balk at my careless consumption of ice cream so early in the morning, I found it a refreshing change and after enjoying a scoop of Pistachio Almond Crunch, and being offered and accepting a scoop of Butter Pecan, I wasn't going to complain. The ice cream was deliciously rich and creamy, not too sweet and total ly refreshing. The store, which re-opened in July, is the creation of Oakville resi dent Eduardo de Abreu, who believes he was destined to one day run his own eatery. "I always wanted to run a bar or restaurant from as far back as I can remember," he says. It's been a long road to seeing his destiny materialize after 27 years in advertising and marketing, de Abreu travelled from a different continent to eventually begin what was a life long dream. Originally from South Africa, Eduardo, his wife Roz and their daughter Tatiana immigrated to Canada eight years ago after he was offered a position in advertising. He is still creative director of his own advertising agency in Oakville, known as Legal Graffiti. With his international experience from advertising agencies in three different continents, de Abreu not only brings a great amount of mar keting expertise to the table, but he is now able to combine his love and passion for the movie and entertain Barrie Erskine · Oakville Beaver Star Scoops owner Eduardo de Abreu lets customers dine with the stars, while they decide which flavour of ice cream to treat themselves with. ment industry. young customers. for the ice-cream "connoisseurs." You can also enjoy a warm after noon or a scoop under the stars on Star Scoops' outdoor patio, next to the fountain overlooking the Town Square in downtown Oakville. "We have a great group here, they're always friendly and extremely knowledgeable about our products and ensure that each cus tomer's needs are met," he says. Essentially, de Abreu hopes this combination of delicious homemade ice cream, food and hot beverages, along with the parlour's Hollywood inspired design, will offer people a whole new experience to buying ice cream.
