It will be held on Lakeshore Road. The street will be closed betw een B ronte Road and Nelson Street. > O rganized by the Bronte Village B1A. the festival will run from 9 a.m. - 11 p.m. The day begins w ith a Belgian w affle breakfast at Vinnie's Cafe. The day will feature a pump kin decorating contest starting at about noon. Local artists will be participat ing in a pumpkin carving contest. Judging will be at about 3 p.m. Local restaurants, including V innie's Cafd, Tw isted Fork, Mixed Grill Catering, Coach and Four, M anchester Arms, Hampton's and Tin Star, will be participating in the Chili CookO ff competition, to be judged at 1:30 p.m. Those wishing to taste the chili at the different locations, starting at about 11 a.m., can pay $5 at the Bronte Village BIA booth and receive a hand stamp. That hand stamp will also allow participants into the street dance starting at 7 p.m., with the Supreme 45s. The event, which begins at 1:30 p.m ., features Appleby College defending its 2002 title as the fastest tub in town, and White Oaks Secondary School defending its Spirit Award. A lso on hand will be D onovan Bailey, five-tim e World Champion and Olympic record holder and Honourary Chair o f the 40th anniversary festivities. For one Sunday in September each year since 1963, Lakeshore Road between Navy Street and Trafalgar Road is closed to regu lar traffic to allow a different kind o f vehicle to maneuver their way through. The Annual Bathtub Race marks the launch o f United Way o f Oakville's annual fundraising campaign and follows a public announcem ent o f the y ea r's fundraising goal. The 2003 cam paign runs from Sept. 21 until the end of November, with the final total revealed at a celebration dinner at the end o f January. Last year's campaign raised a record $3.31 m illion, which went toward funding 70 pro grams and services within a fam ily of 35 health and social serv ice agencies and providing assis tance to over 42,000 people in need in our community. Security guard faces fraud charges A 23-year old Stoney Creek security officer is facing fraud charges in con nection with thefts from an Oakville department store. According to Halton Regional Police, the accused was employed by Sears Canada as a Resource Investigators at Oakville Place since Nov. 2001. From April 3 to Aug. 30 o f this year, while employed at the store in a super visory position, the accused allegedly accessed several cash registers and processed return transactions using dif ferent employee numbers. The transactions would then credit his personal credit cards. There were eight fraudulent transactions totaling just over $35,000. Sears Canada conducted an internal investigation then contacted police. The suspect was arrested on Monday. Darin William Spencer-Penfold of Meteor Boulevard in Stoney Creek has been charged with two counts of fraud over $5,000 and one count o f fraud under $5,000. He is scheduled to appear in Burlington Court on Oct. 14.
