The Oakville Beaver, F rida y S e p te m b e r 19, 2003 - 2 7 United Way builds strong communities ' i A United Way agency may be the shoulder you or someone in your family needs to lean on. Perhaps you're like Sarah, a single mom who is raising three daughters on her own. Or like Andrew, who worries about his mother who has alzheimers and is home alone all day. Or Jamie and l o o Marianne, who have just found out their son is skipping class and hanging out with the wrong crowd. With the pressures and stresses we all face everyday, and the num ber of people requiring assistance increases, so does the need for United Way. And as our commu nity continues to grow, so has United Way's commitment to ensuring vital programs and servic es are maintained for the benefit of us all. Whether you make your deci sion to support United Way at work, in your classroom, or at your own kitchen table, you have made a powerful decision. Because when you get right down to it, when we support United Way, we're not just helping others, we're also helping ourselves. The people whose 11 lives are impacted by a United Way agency often include the people we know - a relative, a friend, or a co-work er. Whatever the situation, it's always rewarding to know that through our efforts, someone's life has changed for the better. And you never know when that life you are changing may be your own. United Way of Oakville's annu al fundraising campaign kicks off on Sunday, September 21st, and United Way of Oakville will announce its most ambitious fundraising goal to date. During the campaign, the Oakville Beaver generously supports United Way by printing our weekly By the Way column. Through this column we aim to increase your awareness of United Way's family of 35 agen cies and 70 programs and services. The people and agencies profiled in By the Way will be people who not only had the strength to over come obstacles, but also have the courage to speak out about it in order to help others. We're proud of our agencies and the work they do, and we want you to know they're there for you, should you or someone you know ever need a hand. As long as there are needs. United Way will be working to make a difference. For more information about United Way's Campaign or its agencies, please call (905) 8455571.
