Next month, she will tap into her lifelong passion while representing Canada at the world championships. Sloane, 16, is on the Canadian adult team competing in Riesa, Germany, Dec. 2 to Dec. 6 at the International Dance Organization's World Tap Dance Championships. The Grade 11 T.A. Blakelock student has been dancing competitively for more than a decade. Dance is such an amazing workout and it is so much fun. It is so amazing how I can find different ways to move to music. With tap, it is so cool how my feet are instruments and I can make different rhythms and sounds with them. Sloane Wilson Oakville dancer While she does hip hop, acro, jazz, ballet, lyrical, modern and contemporary, her favourite is tap. "Dance is such an amazing workout and it is so much fun. It is so amazing how I can find different ways to move to music. With tap, it is so cool how my feet are instruments and I can make different rhythms and sounds with them. I also love performing on stage," said Wilson. Until this year, Wilson trained every Monday, Wednesday and Friday evening, as well as five hours on Sundays. She is still doing three days a week but for fewer hours, due to the demands of school. Wilson has been a senior dancer at Art And Soul Dance Company and attends classes at top studios in Toronto and New York City, including Broadway Dance Center and Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater. During a two-year break from competition, the youth enjoyed singing, performing in musical theatre, playing the saxophone, playing rep field hockey and cheerleading with Cheerforce Wolfpack's team. The student has won numerous awards and scholarships. Wilson recently earned highest tap score for her solo at both the On The Floor competition and Fever International Dance Championships. see Dance on p.26 COMPLIMENTARY TEETH WHITENING* Dr. Vanessa Milich & Associates Family Dental Care Encouraging Healthy and Happy Smiles Queensbury Dental Caring for Oakville Families for 10 years Welcoming New Patients Evening and Saturday Appointments 905.849.8449 Dundas St. Oakmead n Trafalgar Rd.
