The 1956 Mercury M ontclair was only one o f the cars that has rolled o f the lines o f the Oakville Assembly plant in its 50 year history. Since its inception, the plant has produced the Crown Victoria, the Monarch Richlieu and the Ford Falcone and Fairlane models - to name ju s t a few. The first car off the line at the Oakville Assembly plant was a Ford Customline, but it was not the only Ford model built at the plant during its inaugural year. In its first year, the plant built eight different car mod els - Ford Mainline, Ford Customline, Meteor Niagara, Meteor Rideau, Monarch Custom, Monarch Lucerne, Mercury F/M 100-900. Model production remained the same in 1954, but in the following year the Victoria, Crown Victoria and Fairlane lines were added to the lineup. In 1956, the Monarch Richlieu and the Mercury Montclair were added to the production lineup. The Ford Ranchero was added in 1957 and in 1958 the Edsel Ranger, Pace, Corsair and Citation were included in the production line. In 1959, the car lineup remained the same while the Ford/Mercury F/C/T lines up to 1100 were added to the truck line. In 1960 the lineup included Ford, Meteor, Falcon, Frontenac and Mercury lines. In 1966, production included the Ford. Falcon, Comet, Mercury, and Fairlane models. In 1971, the lineup included the Ford Custom, Custom 500, Galaxie 500, LTD meteor Rideau, meteor Rideau 500, meteor Montcalm, meteor Marquis, and Meteor Marquis Brougham. In 1972, the Ford Torino and Gran Torino were added to the lineup. In 1974, the model line included the Ford Torino, Gran Torino (Brougham, Sport) Mercury Marquis, and mar quis Brougham. In 1976, the lineup included the Ford Custom 500, LTD, LTD Landau and Brougham, meteor Rideau 500, Meteor Montcalm, mercury Marquis and Gran mar quis. By 1978, the lineup was reduced to the Custom 500, LTD, LTD and LTD Landau. The 1979 lineup included the LTD, and LTD Landau and in 1980 it was switched to the LTD 'S' and LTD. The next major change occurred in 1984 when the Tempo, Topaz, Escort and Lynx models were intro duced. The following year the Ford Galaxie line was added. In 1965, the Mercury Park Lane, Falcon Futura and Galaxie 500 were added to the line.
