Jane Michael of Burlington is new Catholic board chair by Kathy Yanchus Metroland West Media 15 | Friday, December 5, 2014 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com Burlington trustee Jane Michael was elected chair of the Halton Catholic District School Board at the board's inaugural meeting held at Jean Vanier Catholic Secondary School in Milton Tuesday night. Michael replaces Milton trustee Diane Rabenda. Arlene Iantomasi, also from Burlington, was re-elected vice- chair of the HCDSB. "I am very appreciative of the opportunity to serve as chair of the board of trustees, and to follow the solid leadership examples of the past board chairs," said Michael, who represents Wards 3 and 6. "Halton Catholic is an outstanding board, rich in tradition, excellent academics and the achievement of strong learning outcomes. I look forward to the continued growth and Jane Michael development of Halton Catholic and the collective work and accomplishments ahead on the strategic plan. I will serve the board as chair with pride." There are several challenges ahead for the new board, not the least of which is the constant fight for the Catholic system of education, said Iantomasi. "I'm very humbled," said the veteran trustee of her re-election as vice-chair. "I look forward to working with everyone. I'm sure we're going to work hard, all of us collectively. We've had a great working relationship at this board and I'd like to see that continue." These are interesting times for Catholic education and education in general, when the purpose of school boards and the relevance and role of the trustee are increasingly questioned, said see Catholic on p.18 From Beginner to Professional Chef OPEN TO - We Have the Right Tools for You!
