The two teams will also meet up at the Newmarket Showcase tourney this weekend. Blades hope to withstand Texas Tornado Saturday The Oakville Blades will, no doubt, add one New Year's res olution to their list: Beat the first place Georgetown Raiders. The Blades, who have been in a season long dogfight for second place with the Hamilton Red Wings, tested their mettle against Georgetown on the weekend in a home-artd-home set, and came up short. The Blades kicked off the mini series at home Friday night with a 6-4 loss. On Saturday night, they travelled to Georgetown and lost 7-4. The Blades next league game is not until Saturday, January 3, 6:45 p.m. at Ice Sports Oakville when they host second place Hamilton Red Wings. On Sunday, January 4, 7:30 p.m., the Blades then play at Central Arena in Burlington against the Burlington Cougars. X-MAS TOURNEY The Blades won't get too much rest, however, as they are entered in the annual Newmarket Showcase Tournament, which is designed to attract college and OHL scouts. The Blades, who are in a tough spot in their own league schedule (in the midst of four games with Georgetown and Hamilton) get no reprieve at the tournament as they kick things off this Saturday, Dec. 27, 8:30 p.m. against the Texas Tornados, who are the defend ing tourney champs. At least they can be assured of a good turnout of scouts. Oakville (24-10-2 in the west division) should have an easier day of it on Sunday, at least on paper, as they play Pickering (920-7 in the south division) at noon and divisional rival Buffalo Lightning (9-24-3-2) at 8 p.m. "This is the showcase game of the tourney," said Blades president and GM Bob Falconi. "This will be a character builder for us as we approach the playoffs in our league." 5 25 26 22 23 18 27 20 2 21 17 6 12 16 7 8 30 35 11 PLAYER NICK DODGE STEVEN P1NIZZOTTO JASON DOPACO CHARLIE GIFFIN MICHAEL SWINTON RICO ARNALDO BRAD MCKENZIE RYAN ELLIS DARRELL SIMICH CHRIS KORAS KORY HELOWKA NICK DAVIS RYAN ANGELOW TYLER WOODDISSE DARRYL PASSMORE DEVIN MCELROY PAUL DAWSON ROGER KIM JESSE PAUL TYLER KELLOWAY CHRIS LEBLANC PAUL METCALFE MARK DIBIASE MARK RICHARDSON DAN GIFFIN CHRIS HYK DAN RINGWALD GP 34 30 30 31 34 20 29 13 27 17 20 28 7 25 22 31 34 12 28 25 22 24 6 26 20 17 9 G 27 11 20 13 2 10 7 4 5 4 8 7 3 1 2 4 3 3 5 1 2 1 0 0 0 0 0 A 31 30 18 18 22 11 9 11 9 8 3 3 7 9 7 3 4 4 1 4 1 1 2 1 1 1 0 PTS 58 41 38 31 24 21 16 15 14 12 11 10 10 10 9 7 7 7 6 5 3 2 2 1 1 1 0 PIM 62 124 43 57 103 12 113 6 28 23 22 12 4 33 22 18 82 31 23 27 41 67 15 21 4 4 0 POS FWD FWD FWD FWD DEF FWD FWD FWD DEF FWD FWD FWD DEF FWD FWD DEF FWD DEF FWD DEF DEF GOAL GOAL HT 5-10 5-11 5-8 6-1 5-9 5-10 6-3 6-1 6-3 6-4 6-1 6-0 6-0 6-1 5-11 6-5 5-9 6-1 6-0 5-11 6-0 6-1 5-11 WT 175 175 175 175 185 185 220 190 175 205 190 170 195 190 175 210 160 192 190 190 185 175 180 YOB 1986 1984 1984 1986 1985 1984 1986 1984 1986 1983 1986 1985 1985 1983 1986 1985 1987 1986 1985 1984 1986 1984 1984 # G.A AVG. ICE JUNIORS In junior action earlier Sunday afternoon, Chatham handed Oakville a lump of coal with a 5-3 defeat of the Ice. After Brandice Moniz opened the scoring for Oakville early in the sec ond period, Chatham rallied for three goals in less than three minutes and held off the Ice for the victory. "We lost our checks and played poor defensively," Brandice Moniz said when asked to explain Oakville's second-period struggles. "A lot of us... still have to mature mentally and we're playing against older (experi enced) girls." Oakville coach Bill Metcalfe was disappointed with what he perceived to be a lack of effort from the Ice squad. "They took Chatham lightly and it 'cost them," he said. "We weren't mentally there and didn't execute well. Any day, any time, anyone can beat anybody." Moniz, a 15-year-old Oakville resi dent, scored a pair for the Ice with Oakville's other goal coming off the stick of Samantha Maclean. But not THE record. What he did do, with his two extra points and field goal, is push his season total to 149, breaking the old mark of 145 which he set in 1999. As far as the much publi cized streak, he did keep it going, stretching it to 39 straight field goals with a 40yarder in the second quarter. He is chasing the mark of 40 set by current Tennessee Titans kicker Gary Anderson in 97/98. Vanderjagt and his playoff bound Colts (11-5) close out INCREDIBLE PRICES! INCREDIBLE SELECTION!
