That's how the Force 10 Capital Management Inc. founder describes her time as chair since taking over from Orla Johnston on Sept. 9. Colborne has helped coordinate a number of events locally for the Chamber, most notably the 60th annual Chair's Dinner in September with Peter Mansbridge, CBC News chief correspondent and The National anchor, and the Small Business Week kickoff breakfast in October with Jim Treliving, Dragons' Den star and Boston Pizza owner and chair. "I've always heard that it's a very busy time and that certainly has held through. It does take a fair bit of your time, but it's good fun. It provides some awesome experiences in getting to meet people like Mansbridge and some of the government officials we deal with," said Colborne. The Oakville resident has been with the Chamber for several years, having served on the Executive Committee as vice-chair of the board since 2011 and as a member of the Chamber's board of directors for the three preceding years. Colborne first became a member in 2005 to "get to know the Oakville business community," she said. The Force 10 Capital founder touted the organization's advocacy work, calling the Chamber the "voice of the businesses in Oakville," as it has more than 1,100 members employing 33,000 people locally. "We advocate at all levels for them, so municipal, regional, provincial and federal. We frequently have members of government at all four levels come in and speak with our members," said Colborne. "We were the very first organization anywhere in Canada to host Stephen Poloz, the new Bank of Canada Governor." Colborne spent part of her professional life working for multinational companies overseas, including as managing director (CEO) of New Zealand and Global Marketing Director (in Lyon, France and Duluth, Georgia) for Merial. When the Chamber Chair moved back to Canada in 2005, she said she had "zero desire" to work for another multinational firm. "I looked at what I wanted to do and I had a reasonable background in finance, having been a manager responsible for budgets and (I was) also in marketing.
