"Every Christmas is just a gift. Every year that 1 get to take that Santa picture is wonderful." said Matwey, 36. The single mother-of-two said she feels blessed each day her threeyear-old son, Matthew, is alive. He could die any day, she said. Matthew has a rare genetic disorder called cranial/facial dyssynostosis, which causes bone malformation. S Matthew also suffers seizures and had a prolonged seizure that resulted in brain damage in April 2002, said his mother. "He was given a five per cent chance to live and he did. he's my mir acle baby," said Matwey. The long-time Oakville resident acknowledges that her son lives day by day. He sustained brain damage in the April 2002 seizure, which put him in Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children. He was taken off life support and survived."He came back, but he wasn't the little boy he was. Basically he was in a vegetative state." said Matwey.
