Art Exhibit 2015, held at Queen Elizabeth Park Community and Cultural Centre, 2302 Bridge Rd., officially opens tomorrow (Friday) from 5-7 p.m. The exhibition showcases the creativity of studio members and raises awareness for the arts and culture community in Oakville, said OAS owner Ixchel Suarez. "The centre is a unique and dynamic public space that encourages active living, and inspires the cultural artistic expressions of the exhibitors," she said. "If music is food for the soul, on Feb. 6, everyone in attendance is invited to raise their glass and celebrate the incredible talent on display. Wine, drinks and appetizers will be shared as everyone has the chance to enjoy an exciting night of music and friendship." Bernadette Ward, director of the Oakville Arts Council, will be at the opening of the show to cut the ribbon. Art Exhibit 2015 will stay on display until Saturday, Feb. 28. Two new Musikay workshops on vocal technique, conducting Musikay is offering two new workshops, vocal technique and conducting, as part of its Confident Choristers series. The vocal technique workshop is for choral singers of all levels and singers at large, designed to help performers sing efficiently, without fatigue, learn the proper technique to better project, to a produce richer sound, blend better, and improve intonation. Participants will learn the history of singing techniques, understand the functions of the different physical elements of sound productions, and explore proper posture in rehearsals and concerts. The workshop will be held Saturday (Feb. 7) at 2 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, 304 Spruce St., and Sunday (Feb. 8) at 2:30 p.m., at the Grace Lutheran Church in Hamilton, 1107 Main St. W. The conducting workshop is for choral singers who want a better grasp on conducting technique and those who want to feel more confident in following their conductor. Participants will be both choristers and conductors, and develop basic conducting gestures and patterns. They will learn how to prepare a score for conducting, give clear verbal instructions and be efficient in rehearsals to develop a better understanding of the meaning of a conductor's direction. The workshop will take place on Saturday, Feb. 28 at 2 p.m. at Oakville's Grace Lutheran Church, and on Sunday, March 1 at 2:30 p.m. at the Grace Lutheran Church in Hamilton. Award-winning Canadian author, and former Oakville resident, Lawrence Hill recently paid a visit to Sheridan College's Trafalgar Road campus to kick off the institution's new Creative Campus Series -- a selection of talks by different guests from a wide range of disciplinary and professional backgrounds.
