www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Thursday, February 26, 2015 | 18 Trillium grant gives Lorne Scots a boost with training On Feb. 11, members of the 1188 Lorne Scots Royal Canadian Army Cadets Corps (Oakville Army Cadets) displayed just a few of the many items bought by their Cadet Corps as a result of receiving a $49,000 grant from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF). The equipment assists the youths in their monthly physical training nights (PT) and various field training exercises (FTX) by providing up-to-date gear. Oakville MPP Kevin Flynn and OTF volunteer Alex Dhanjal, visited to present a plaque, congratulate the cadets and hear more about how the grant is making a difference. "This grant will enable the Oakville Army Cadets to participate in a range of recreational activities to help develop and enhance their leadership skills while also promoting healthy, active living. It's an honour to be a part of this ceremony and I congratulate the Lorne Scots on receiving the Trillium grant," said Flynn. Among the many items purchased was new sports and gym equipment, camping equipment and canoes and mountain bikes for both indoor and outdoor activities that keep the Cadets physically active. The Oakville Army Cadets recently celebrated their 90th anniversary, serving the community of Oakville since 1924. These objectives are obtained by delivering a cost-free program that offers fun and challenging activities that combine educational learning with many neighbourhood opportunities, which creates an increased understanding of how volunteer service helps to drive the success of communities like Oakville.
