"Notre Dame did a better job exe cuting with the ball all day," said Loyola defensive coach Daril Tharbe. "They're a running team, and they found some success early." Actually, it was Oakville who was successful early on as Paul Longo got the season's first touchdown in the opening minutes. Making the play possible was third year player Ian Hawkins who made a key interception to give Loyola the ball deep in Burlington's end zone. "This offence has lots of untapped potential," the OAC student said. According to this veteran, the recipe for Loyola to have success is to avoid any serious injuries and to continue building on the strong defence. He also pointed out that it was only the first game. "The goal is winning the home cham pionship and playing at SkyDome," he said. Burlington countered with the tying touchdown later in the half with Brent Hickey muscling his way into the end zone. Heading into the second half up 8-7, Notre Dame sealed the win with touch downs from Jeremy Abellara, who made a highlight, one-handed catch in the end zone, and Nathan Penrose who finished off the scoring. "We had a few great plays, then did n't play at the same level," said line coach Mike Choma. "If we are more consistent, then w e'll have better results."
