That was the message Tuesday (April 28) at Oakville's commemoration of the National Day of Mourning, a day of remembrance for workers who have been killed or injured on the job in Canada. "It shouldn't happen," said Tim Batke, rst vice president of the Oakville Industry Labour Council. "They should be able to go into work everyday and come home and be able to get home safely to their families. "That's why we're here today: to honour those people who have passed away and to ght for the living and mourn for the dead," he added. The local event was held at the Workers Memorial in Centennial Square outside Oakville Central Library Branch, 120 Navy Street. Workers, union members and local politicians were on hand to mark the solemn occasion. Abigail Bergman, 14, went missing along with 15-year-old Polinah Ouskova Monday night. Bergman has been playing the character Abi since the second season of The Family Channel show, con rmed Jaime Bassett, director of communications for DHX Television, which owns the Canadian network. "We're aware of the situation and we're continuing to monitor it," said Bassett.
