Under the by-law, a motorcycle cannot operate in Oakville if it emits any sound exceeding 92 decibels (dBA) from the exhaust at idle. Free testing: The Town of Oakville will be holding a noise testing clinic to give owners a chance to test their motorcycles for decibel levels, free of charge. This clinic is designed to both check bikes for excessive noise emissions, and to provide information about how to bring them up to industry and community standards. Decibel readings will be taken at a distance of 50 centimetres from the exhaust by a sound level meter. Most motorcycles do pass! Owners should only be concerned if their motorcycle has been modified or has an after-market exhaust system. Motorcycle owners whose bikes are not compliant with the Town of Oakville Noise By-law will not be issued a ticket at testing clinics, however enforcement will be in effect over the course of this summer's riding season. For more information please visit oakville.ca or contact Marny Sharpen, Licensing and By-Law Services at 905-845-6601, ext. 2902 or marny.sharpen@oakville.ca. Does your motorcycle pass the test?
