The Halton O utdoor Club (form erly the Halton Cross C ountry Ski Club), is offering cross country ski lessons to the public. The projected dates for lessons are Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 4 and 5 at H ardwood Hills, north o f Barrie. In case o f poor snow or adverse w eather conditions, the back-up lesson dates are Jan. 11 and 12. Bus departure is at 8 a.m . sharp from the parking lot at 777 W alkers Line betw een H arv ester R oad and Fairview A venue in Burlington. Three levels o f courses -- beginners classic, interm ediate classic, and skating -- are offered, plus lessons for children. Beginners classic is for those who have never skied before. The course will teach the fundam entals o f skiing and give you the basics for enjoying yourself on the easier trails o f the resort. Interm ediate classic is designed for those who have skied before, either cross-country or alpine, and wish to im prove their technique. This course will enable you to ski faster and further. Skating requires proficiency in classic ski ing, with weight transfer, and reasonable phys ical fitness and agility. Participants should have, or rent, equipm ent suitable for skate ski ing. If you do not have your own skis, boots and poles, they can be rented from the resort. Cost for equipm ent rental is around $20 for the day. The cost o f the ski lessons is $55 including bus transportation, trail fees and instruction. C hildren's lessons cost $40. Participants should bring their ow n lunch -- or they can buy it at the resort.
