The Oakville resident celebrated at The Kensington on Lakeshore Road. She was joined by family members: Jeff Batchelor (grandson), Melissa Batchelor (Jeff's wife), Nancy Batchelor (daughter-in-law), Dave Batchelor (son), Andy McClelland (friend), and Jen Batchelor (granddaughter), among other relatives. Evelyn Victoria was born May 24, 1915 in Shawville, Que., and was named after Queen Victoria, who was also born on May 24. The Oakville woman then moved to Marone, Sask., at the age of two, where she lived on a farm and completed Grade 12. Six years of drought drove her family from their farm when Evelyn was 18 years old and they returned to Shawville, Que., remaining there a year before moving to Oakville. Evelyn was 20 years old at the time and her parents remained here for the rest of their lives. Evelyn began her career as a registered nurse at Hamilton General Hospital in 1938 and graduated in 1941. She then worked at Westinghouse as an industrial nurse before marrying Clifford Batchelor in 1944 and subsequently moving to Burlington in 1949. After having three sons, she returned to nursing at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital. Upon retiring, the couple moved to Dornoch, Ont. in 1974, but returned to Oakville in 1995.
