Oakville Players hosts awards, OTF grant night The Oakville Players is putting on its annual One Act Play Festival Awards Night and Ontario Trillium Gala tomorrow (Saturday) evening. This year, the Oakville Drama series is using its festival awards night as a platform to thank the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF) for its two-year, $98,500 grant. The funding was given to the Oakville Players last fall in an effort to keep arts alive locally and to hire a marketing adviser to help the theatre company continue to grow, according to a media release. "We are thrilled to be able to present and nurture local talent, and thanks to the Ontario Trillium Foundation, we will be able to better advertise the amazing things that the Oakville Drama Series is doing in order to make Oakville one of the most livable cities in Ontario," Brendan McDowell, president of the Oakville Players, said in the media release. Doors to the event open at 7:30 p.m. at the West End Studio Theatre, 1109 North Service Rd. E. The evening will include eight 10-minute plays, written, directed and performed by local talent, as well as a presentation of the OTF grant. Awards will be presented to the best actors, directors, writers and shows. The Oakville Players is a volunteer community theatre group that produces two main stage productions at the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts and a One Act Night studio production each year. Artist Jodi Wheeler is holding an opening reception for her new art exhibition, Moments and Memories, Thursday, June 4. Held at Trias Gallery, 11 Bronte Rd., unit 29, the exhibit, which features paintings of Oakville, runs from Wednesday, June 3 through Sunday, June 14.
