Oakville's DeFazio inks deal with Bruins Brandon DeFazio has signed a one-year contract with the Boston Bruins. The Oakville native made his NHL debut last season, playing two games with the Vancouver Canucks in November. DeFazio, 26, led the American Hockey League's Utica Comets with 21 goals and was second in team scoring with a career-best 43 points. He helped Utica reach the Calder Cup final where the Comets lost to the Manchester Monarchs. The former Oakville Blade turned pro after completing his senior season at Clarkson University in 2011. Oakville clinched the tournament title with a 16-2 victory over Belle River, the same team the Whitecaps routed 13-0 in the semifinals. In the preliminary round, Oakville defeated Windsor Central, Forest Glade and Windsor South. Oakville's Braeden Dyck was named the MVP in the final after going 3-for-3 with four runs batted in. Dyck also pitching three innings of no-hit ball, striking out nine. In the semifinal, the Whitecaps' Lucas Marley held Belle River hitless in two innings of mound work, fanning six. William Nicholson hit a two-run single while Danny Keith, Connor Waters, Willem O'Reilley and Dyck also delivered run-scoring hits.
