Oakville won the 30th edition of the Burnaby, B.C., competition Sunday, routing the Coquitlam Gold 8-1 in the Tier 1A final. The Hawks were 5-0 during round-robin play and won their semifinal game convincingly as well, 12-5 over Ridge Meadows (Maple Ridge, B.C.). Sports Briefs Hawks, Scott Ainslie is the trainer and Mike Klinck is the manager. Oakville Minor Lacrosse Association squads also won the Jack Crosby title in 2011 and 2012, adding a secondplace finish in 2013. Bantam Rangers at ball hockey provincials An Oakville Rangers bantam team will compete for a provincial ball hockey championship this weekend in Georgetown and Milton. Both the winner and runner-up in the A division, which the Rangers will be competing in, will represent Ontario at the junior national championships next year. Oakville will play its first game of the tournament Friday in Milton (8 p.m. at Milton Memorial Arena) and then play two more games Saturday in Georgetown (12 p.m. and 8 p.m. at Mold-Masters Fernbrook). Earning first-degree black belts were Amelie Pereault, Olivia Zabudsky, Matthew Drozdz, Skyler Piskroski, Joban Nijjar, Zachary Knuff, Jacob Moodie, Chloe Hill, Rachel Hill, Daniel Howard, Collin Strickland and Erik Kolarolvaliev. Second-degree black belts were presented to Ethan Williams and Kieran Hussey. Students were required to meet certain criteria in a physical test, patterns, sparring, self defence and board-breaking in order to receive their black belts.
