Roxborough Drive resident Lisa Hotchkiss discovered the flyer from the #NO2Trudeau Campaign in her mailbox on Friday. "It was just really, really graphic," said Hotchkiss. "It was just sticking half out of the mailbox and I didn't think anything of it and I grabbed it and it was like `Oh, my gosh.'" The flyer criticizes Justin Trudeau's policy on abortion and features a photograph of the Liberal leader along with an image of what the flyer claims to be an aborted 10-week-old fetus. Another fetus image can be found on the reverse side of the flyer. Hotchkiss, who hid the leaflet in her recycling bin so her 12-year-old daughter could not see it, contacted the phone number listed to protest the way the material was delivered. She said the automated answering service never gave her the opportunity to talk with a person. The only option was to leave a message after she had to listen to a statement This image appears on the #NO2TRUDEAU website, however, graphic images on a postcard-like flyer delivered to approximately 10,000 Oakville homes this week has residents crying foul over the graphic nature of the images. A total of 40,000 is targeted to be delivered in town this summer. | #NO2TRUDEAU 2015 about the group's stance on abortion. "I just left a message saying I thought it was very inappropriate for them to be putting this stuff out," said Hotchkiss. "It's one thing if it was in an envelope, but this was right out there and I don't know if the image is real or not, but it is very graphic, showing these aborted fetuses. They are very bloody, showing pieces of the baby. It's very disturbing." More than anything, Hotchkiss said, she is concerned about children seeing the content, noting if her 12-year-old daughter had picked up the mail that day she would have been "more than a little upset." Hotchkiss was not the only person to receive a visit from the #NO2Trudeau campaign flyer. On Monday, Bramblewood Green resident Cynthia O'Halloran said she and a number of her neighbours received the same leaflet. As the area uses community mailboxes, the flyer was left on her doorstep. "This is disgusting. I showed it to my husband and he just cringed," said O'Halloran. "This is a flyer that is not being placed in a mailbox. This is a flyer that is being delivered door-to-door. It is summertime. There are kids outside playing. How many kids have seen this flyer?" At least one child on Bridge Road has. "My daughter was quite upset today to find this in the mailbox," said Anne Carpenter, another recipient. "How can these people leave this garbage in personal mailboxes for children to find?" Jonathon Van Maren, communications director for the pro-life group Canadian Centre for Bio-Ethical Reform (CCBR), said the #NO2Trudeau campaign was created in partnership by the CCBR and a second prolife group called the Campaign Life Coalition. The two national groups are made up of about 50 staff members with offices in Ontario and Alberta. Van Maren said CCBR has handled most of the flyer delivery, so far distributing 10,000 flyers to the Oakville area. He noted the group is far from finished with a goal of distributing 40,000 across the see Political on p.18 up TO 60% OFF RENOVATION CLEARANCE SALE Sat., August 8th · 9am - 5pm Huge inventory of NEW 2014 gas fires with venting and fire backs $1,000 Absolute lowest prices on outdoor fire pits and hand made wrought iron furniture All floor models of gas & dimplex electric fireplaces. 905-337-2066 | www.cobblestonembers.ca 406 Speers Rd., Oakville FOR HEALTHY TREES.... 10%off All you can EAt Buffet (Lunch or Dinner Tues - Fri) staurant Sweets & Re Remove Deadwood 905-491-6860 at All You Can E n ria 100% Vegeta fEt f u B a Weekday s o Sam SpeCiaL LUNCH $1099 2 /$1 DiNNeR $1199 From 11am-3pm From 5pm-9pm 2345 Trafalgar Road · 905-257-0808 JUNIOR (3YR - 11YR) $8.99 Kids (2YR & Under) $ Free
