www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Friday, July 24, 2015 | 16 Federal government investing in Oakville Armoury by David Lea Oakville Beaver Staff Oakville MP Terence Young announced recently the federal government will invest $483,000 in the Oakville Armoury for significant upgrades. The local landmark is home to A Company, a unit of the Lorne Scots infantry regiment, which has a long and celebrated history traced back almost 150 years. The 1188 Lorne Scots Royal Canadian Army Cadet Corps meets and trains at the Armoury. "The reservists and cadets, who call the Oakville Armoury their home, uphold this community's proud military traditions, reflecting Oakville's long and storied military past," said Young. "I'm pleased to announce this $483,000 infrastructure investment by our government to upgrade the Armoury and allow that tradition to continue." The funds will pay for new windows, repairs to brickwork, as well as the replacement of electrical panels and emergency lighting. Work at the Armoury will begin this summer, and is expected to be completed over the next two years. Young said it would also help support the local economy and job creation. The upgrades to the Oakville Armoury are part of a $452 million investment the federal government is making in the Department of National Defence (DND) for the repair and upgrade of Canadian Armed Forces facilities. Over the next two years, $135 million will be invested in projects involving repairs to roofs, siding, plumbing, and heating and ventilation systems at armouries across Canada. By completing this work, the DND is hoping to improve efficiency and reduce maintenance costs at the facilities. Oakville MP Terence Young chats with the Lorne Scots Cadet Warrant Officers Philip Jia, left, and Alexander Samaha after making an announcement on behalf of the Honourable Julian Fantino, Associate Minister of National Defence, about an investment of $483,000 in funding to improve infrastructure at the Oakville Armoury, in support of the Canadian Armed Forces. | photo by Michael Ivanin - special to the Beaver CONCRETE ExposEd aggrEgatE (pebble) MVL LEASING LIMITED 905-849-6995 1064 SOUTH SERVICE RD.
