Wednesday, April 4, 2001 THE OAKVILLE BEAVER D5 MOMS week: it' s a wrap The volunteer Hockey MOMS annual awards and cham pionship week is over for another year, with the last o f 22 house league championship games played last Wednesday, in the midget division. As usual, these volunteer MOMS are responsible for this hectic several days of hockey which traditionally wraps up the Minor Oaks Hockey Association house league season. Running all day Sunday and during the evenings on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, it virtually took over River Oaks Arena. The volunteer MOMS put on the entire week, arranging the ice, buying all of the trophies, and, of course, picking up the entire tab which comes to about $12,000. So, before they call it a season, and take a well deserved rest, the volunteer Hockey MOMS still have one remaining item of business -- their major fundraiser. Their annual dinner/dance will be held on Saturday, April 14 at RattleSnake Point. Tickets are still available. As well, the Hockey MOMS are always appreciative of items for the silent auction. "It's the biggest fundraiser we have to support the PAPERWEIGHT WHITE TIMBIT WHITE RANGERS 5 vs. TIMBIT RED ROCKETS 2 Timbit White Rangers -- first place MOMS for the awards week," said president Nancy Brooks. Phone Brooks at the MOHA hockey office at 338-9220 for more info. The volunteer M OMS, m eanwhile, would like to acknowledge the following Oakville Ranger players that volunteered their spare time to help co-ordinate the paper weight (Timbit) divisions with their awards. Their efforts were greatly appreciated by all: · M inor peewee AAA division: Christopher Wills, Marcus Pryde, Stefan Legein, Matthew Binnington. · Minor peewee A division: Mathew Noonan. Special nominations o f the year for 2000/01: · Convenor of the Year -- Frank Sabatino; · Volunteers o f the Year -- Jan Care, Helen Wills. Special thanks to the local newspaper Sports Editors for covering this annual event during the long hours from March 25 to March 28. You represent us well.
