I don't quite understand the problem with airplane noise of which some Oakville residents complain. These planes are just landing and taking off. Nothing more. They are not producing more noise than necessary to undertake a safe and proper procedure. However, there are some noises in this town that are made with the intent of being louder than anything else. I am speaking of cars and motorcycles. How often do you hear a motorcycle five or six blocks away and can track the travel as it gets closer and then recedes into the distance? The same for some cars. These vehicles are purchased with mufflers that are put in place in order to block most if not all of the engine noise. It seems, though, that many people purchase special devices that amplify the sound of the engine. They want their vehicles to make excessive noise. Why? I really don't know except I do know it is quite annoying. These people are making noise on purpose. Airplanes are not. Lucky are the complainers about aircraft noise. They have a phone number that can be used to describe the noise giving the day and time of the occurrence. But what about cars and bikes? Realistically, to whom does one complain? With our sometimes-wet-sometimes-dry weather, it's no pleasure to repair the lawn and sprinklers when a monster SUV`s tires leave deep ruts. Most of the so-called owners of rocks put those rocks on their lawns to prevent some contractors from parking their trucks and trailers, you name it, on the lawn for months on end. We want people to enjoy the lake, but respect our properties, too.
