"There was also some corrosion that was starting to happen and that wasn't good," Forte said. "We basically got rid of all the white rust and corrosion, grinded it and sanded it. "It was very worn-down and tired looking." Forte's company has done work for the Town of Oakville for the past 25 years. When it became known the Town wanted the clock to be spruced up, Forte submitted a proposal and his bid was accepted last month. "The Town wanted it done before the long weekend so we fortunately had great weather and we managed to do the job," he said. Forte has so far received a lot of positive feedback. "Some people actually thought it was a completely new clock," he said. "One person said they thought they liked the old one better." The original clock was factory finished, Forte said. The clock was up and ready for the Millennium countdown on Dec. 31, 1999.
