A revamped policy governing what can appear at the park's bandsheil, when it can appear, and for how long, was approved at Tuesday's Community Services Committee meet ing. The policy will make its way to council for final approval in early April. "It's a revamp of an existing policy. There was some concern by local resi dents as to the number o f events being scheduled for the Coronation Park stage," said Chris Mark, the Town's Parks and Recreation assistant opera tions manager. "Local council agreed to cap the number of major events," said Mark. Mission Style Bedroom You'll love the authentic arts and crafts styling of this turn of the century replica. B u rlin g to n Beside 4205 The new policy sets out three class es of event -- based primarily on the duration of an event. There will be only one Class III event annually -- that which lasts over a number of days. W hile the event is subject to Council's approval, it's pretty much guaranteed to be the Oakville Waterfront Festival in June, said Mark. No events will be slated for Sundays after 4:30 p.m. and all special events must wrap up by 11 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Class I events will be under four hours long. Class II events can be 4-12 hours long, or an event less than four hours in length but one which could have a sig nificant impact on the park or sur rounding community. Mark said a good example of a Class II event is the annual Multicultural Festival held in July. The policy allows the Town to con trol every event and all their particulars -- from what food, washroom and security services are needed, to poten tial for overflow parking problems in the nearby community. · "The stage and park are intended to foster recreational, cultural, and leisure opportunities for residents of Oakville," said Mark. There's to be no commercial or political use of the bandsheil unless the Town gives it the go-ahead.
