Halton Pride reaches out by Bob Mitchell Special to the Beaver 5 | Thursday, August 20, 2015 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com It was a day for celebration and awareness, but for Marcus Logan the annual Halton Pride event, held this year in Burlington, was also a chance to reach out to those walking on the edge of despair. Organized by Positive Space Network (PSN) and its Youth Action Committee (YAC), the daylong event Saturday at Central Park featured a carnival atmosphere with games, information booths and entertainment. Logan, supervisor of PSN, said he believes the programs and agencies connected to the Network play a dramatic role in the lives of queer and trans-people. "The work we do saves lives," Logan said. "I have no problem saying that. "We meet kids in hospital after a suicide attempt or a mental health breakdown and they change. We provide them with a really amazing safe youth centre space where they are allowed to be who they are. They spend a couple of hours. They make friends and they realize they're not alone anymore." This was the 16th annual Halton Pride event. It has changed over the years and has been held see Annual on p.9 Since 1967 upholstery & design Custom made or reupholstered to suit your style!
