New cat book and movie premiere benefitting OMHS It looks like things are going to the cats in Oakville. The Oakville and Milton Humane Society (OMHS) recently announced the launch of local artist and pet photographer Maria Bell's new book The Cats of Oakville and the premiere of the Just for Cats Film Festival Thursday, Sept 24. The Cats of Oakville A limited edition, The Cats of Oakville is the third book published in a series by Bell. It is a collection of more than 200 felines captured by a group of photographers and depicts the "uniqueness and diversity of these inspiring creatures," according to a media release. In 2011, set against the canvas of Oakville streets, gardens and parks, the local photographer set out to capture the dogs of Oakville and their unique personalities. That book quickly sold out and Bell followed it with a second. "The first book alone raised $25,000 for the Oakville and Milton Humane Society. It was Maria's way to help the most vulnerable animals in the community," said Kim Millan, OMHS executive director. Proceeds from Bell's The Cats of Oakville will go towards the OMHS. The book will also officially launch at the local premiere of the Just for Cats festival. Just for Cats The Just For Cats Film Festival features an internationally-acclaimed, award-winning Internet cat video reel. The festival premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival and features 60 minutes of feline hilarity, according to the release. It will be held at Film.ca, 171 Speers Rd., from 7-9 p.m. Tickets cost $20 for adults and $10 for kids, and are available online at omhs.ca or at the local shelter located at 445 Cornwall Rd. Proceeds from the premiere support OMHS and the Canadian Federation of Humane Societies. 17 | Friday, September 18, 2015 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com n ow o f f e r i n g P h ys i ot h e r a P y o s t eo Pat h y at h l e t i c t h e r a P y Offer expires October 16, 2015.
