www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Thursday, September 24, 2015 | 40 Oakville humane society seeks `cat-man' for Oakville Half Marathon Two years ago, Andrew Shannon donned cat ears and a tail to run in the Oakville Half Marathon and raise awareness and funds for the Oakville and Milton Humane Society (OMHS). Shannon became known as `Cat-Man' and raised more than $6,000 to assist in the care of an abundance of cats at OMHS. His actions have motivated the entire OMHS Animal Protective Services Team and volunteers to run in this year's Oakville Half Marathon, which is taking place Sunday (Sept. 27). "Andrew's amazingly creative approach -- thanks to Marion, his wife and the genius who came up with the idea -- and ability to see possibilities where he could have seen barriers, his passion and compassion for animals... has inspired others," stated a media release from the OMHS. After the 2013 half marathon, Shannon told the Oakville Beaver he and his wife were overwhelmed by the generosity they received -- having only expected to raise just more than $1,000. "To exceed this by six times really blew us away," he had said. "We are also very surprised to hear about the impact of the article in the Beaver. One (reader) actually tracked us down and called us at the house to find out where she could send a cheque. She was so gracious on the phone and three days later, we received a cheque for $100." The OMHS team is hoping to bring Cat-Man out of retirement to once again run Andrew Shannon aka `Cat-Man' Sunday for the cats currently in the shelter's care. Posters have been put up across Oakville, asking for the public's assistance in finding Cat-Man and bringing him to the marathon. Anyone who spots one of the posters is asked to take a photo with it and email it to CatMan@ omhs.ca or call the Cat-Man hotline at 905-8451551, ext. 53.
