"For me, it's really important that we keep Canada on track economically," said Triantafilopoulos, who recently moved to the riding in January from Mississauga. She noted while the Canadian economy is doing well, the global economy is fragile and uncertain. To continue growing the economy steadily, Triantafilopoulos, who served as president and chief executive officer of not-for-profit organization Save the Children Canada, and is currently volunteering her time with the Hellenic Heritage Foundation, said the programs and policies of the Conservative government need to be maintained. The Conservative government has created 1.3 million new jobs since the depth of the global financial crisis, has passed the Federal Balanced Budget Act and continues to keep taxes low and provide infrastructure funding, she boasted. The income-splitting plan and the revamped Universal Child Care Benefit have also been well-received by residents, added Triantafilopoulos, about the feedback she's received while canvassing. If elected, Triantafilopoulos said she would dedicate herself to stimulating the economy and ensuring ongoing growth continues in the local community. The Stephen Harper government has also promised a manufacturing hub that will be created in Burlington to help connect small and mid-sized businesses with financial, engineering and training resources, she said. "It's going to be a centre with cutting edge products and technologies," Triantafilopoulos noted. "For me, that equates to more jobs for our community. Individuals can live and work in our community and cut back on the long commute..." Before it's time to vote Oct. 19, she is encouraging residents to get engaged in the issues and choose a candidate they feel would best represent them. "People have to decide which of the parties will be the best at managing and protecting the Canadian economy and I believe that's going to the Conservative government," she said. Triantafilopoulos added she would be a strong voice and advocate for the constituents. "I very much want to serve our community," she said. "I feel I've got the right mix of private sector and not-for-profit experience. I'm very much a problem-solver. I'd work on behalf of residents to champion our interest in Ottawa."
