Dreams Take Flight is able to double the capacity of last year's trip by flying two *767's to Florida. He noted that while children from all over Ontario are invit ed, it's the Oakville area that really makes a difference. "The Oakville Field Hockey Club has raised almost $80,000 in just two years," Sanderson said. "Clearly the action's out here." Special recognition was given to Vinnie Di Rollo. chair of the OFHC's Dream-a-Thon Committee. "She has incredible faith that any goal can be achieved," said John Picone. In accepting a plaque from the Dream-a-Thon Committee members. Di Rollo was quick to point out the fundraiser's success is due to the fact that a lot of people came together to help her. She thanked the mem bers o f the field hockey club in particular, many of whom were in attendance. A special thank you to Mayor Ann Mulvale was deliv ered by Erin Bursey, a Grade 10 student at St. Thomas Aquinas Secondary School, where the Dream-a-Thon was held. "There are too many to thank." said Erin. " But I believe that every single person who did something to help has something in common: their love, their faith in dreams and that a caterpillar can become a beautiful butterfly and soar to the sun." She and St. M ichael's student Lindsay Amaral pre sented the mayor with a bou quet of flowers. Picone said he was excited to meet some o f the children. "Shaking their hands and intro ducing myself and answering their questions and watching their faces light up . . . it was wonderful." Ulysses Santos from St. James School buzzed around Picone every chance he could get with a barrage o f questions: "How big's Mickey? Can I be in your group? How fast do the rides go?" The Dream-a-Thon was the second annual fundraiser by The O akville Field Hockey Club. The $52,000 was the result o f pledges sought by m em bers o f the club who played a m arathon indoor match. Money was also raised through the sale of decorative butterflies in many Oakville schools. "I'm still getting requests for the butterflies," said Di Rollo. "I'm doubling our order for next year." Items donated to the day's silent auction also generated funds. The club is particularly grateful to the many corporate sponsorships they received which covered all administra tive costs, especially lnvidiata Homes which covered the cost o f jerseys and socks.
