One student took the challenge a step further by creating a video game, which featured different music for each level. Dubreuil, who teaches Grade 5 this year, encouraged students to write their own band compositions and teach it to others. They were given the opportunity to experience live musicals and compete with other schools. "Sandra's tireless efforts have given her students a real sense of pride in what they can accomplish," wrote W.H. Morden Public School Vice Principal Janice Bunn in her nomination. Dubreuil told the Oakville Beaver she believes it's important to help students develop a love for music and enjoy coming to her class every day. "Music is everywhere in our lives; it is connected to our senses and helps create memories. I feel by listening to students in each class, and creating exciting, real-world opportunities and activities, students will develop a lifelong appreciation and interest of music." Dubreuil said she strives to provide students with "opportunity and open infinite pathways in which they can explore; ultimately empowering students with moments of deep understanding, critical thinking, pride and discovery of enthusiasm and excitement towards learning." She said she feels humbled at being recognized for something she loves to do. "I work with an amazing team so the fact I was recognized, I feel very honoured," said Dubreuil, who credits Brock University's teaching program for equipping her with tools to be successful. "The teachers at this school are so helpful and so amazing and so welcoming," she added. OTIP provides insurance coverage for more than 160,000 education employees in Ontario.
