Born in 1924 to Ferris and Mae Bye, Ray was raised along with his two brothers, Jack and David, in the Qu'appelle Valley, Saskatchewan. As a young man, Ray joined the Canadian Armed Forces and served in both the Army and the RCAF. While working in Regina after the war he met the love of his life, Luella (Devine). Luella and Ray were married in 1954 and settled in Oakville, ON, where they spent most of their adult lives. A licensed Stationary Engineer and an automobile mechanic, Ray spent his non-military career working in the Oakville area for British and National Oxygen, Long Manufacturing, Mack Truck, Appleby College and Liquid Carbonic. After retiring, Ray continued to work part-time as a security guard at Ennisclare On The Lake in Bronte. Ray was an avid reader and liked to spend time watching television and listening to lively country music. He also enjoyed painting, doing crossword puzzles, playing solitaire on his computer and never missed a chance to go to garage sales on a Saturday morning. When spending time with friends and family, Ray loved to tell stories and would talk their ears off if given the chance. A long-time member of Oakville R.E.A.C.T. radio club, Ray also held a HAM radio licence. He was very interested in automobiles and loved to drive. He and Luella would frequently take drives to the local countryside and they went on many road trips through Canada and the U.S., often towing their trailer. Ray was a devoted husband to Luella throughout their 61-year marriage, and a loving father to their two daughters, Pamela Williamson (Kevin) and Allison Cook (David). Ray is survived by his wife, daughters and sons-in-law, his brother Jack and wife Shirley of Burlington, cousins, sisters-and-brothersin-law, and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to sincerely thank the staff of Extendicare Halton Hills for their loving care of their Dad, as well as the dedicated ICU team at OTMH. Cremation and interment took place at Glen Oaks Funeral Home and Cemetery in Oakville. The family is planning to hold a celebration of Ray's life at a later date.
