About 125 people have signed up to participate in the unique challenge taking place in downtown Oakville this Saturday (Oct. 24) beginning at 1 p.m. Black Forest Pastry Shop owner John Ziemba says the idea was dreamed up as a way to bring people together for fun and in support of a cause. He's asking for donations to help Oakville's Lighthouse Program for Grieving Children. Noting the support group will be moving at the end of the month to Bronte, he said he's hoping the money raised will help the organization with renovations to the new property. Ziemba said there will be eight waves of up to 15 people taking part in Cupcake Mile, which takes runners along Lakeshore Road, Thomas Street and then Robinson Street before cutting through Towne Square to his storefront at 184 Lakeshore Rd. E. There will also be a shorter cookie dash John Ziemba challenge for children 10 years old and younger. "I'm a runner myself and a lot of my friends are runners and we just thought, I'm a baker too and the two things go hand-in-hand," he said. "It would be a fun event to bring people together." Spectators are welcome. For more information, visit blackforestpastryshop.ca.
