Certificates of recognition were also presented to District Governor Barry Howie, Rotarians Verna Andrews and Peter Thoem, and the Interact Clubs from Oakville Trafalgar High School and St. Mildred's Lightboum School. The Rotary Club of Oakville Trafalgar, together with 17 other Rotary Clubs in Southern Ontario including the Rotary Club o f O akville and the Rotary Club of Burlington Central, donated a total of $39,000 which was matched by the Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA). The minefield selected was the entire village of Vranici in Bosnia and Herzegovina. This village which had housed 100 residents has been derelict since the 1992-1995 war because of the presence of anti personnel landmines. Clearance of the minefield will allow villagers to return to their homes and rebuild their lives. Adopt-A-Minefield (Canada) is a project of the Canadian Landmine Foundation, the only organiza tion in the world dedicated to raising funds for humanitarian demining. In making the presentation, Canadian Landmine Foundation, president and CEO, Frank O 'Dea, described an innovative new fundraising event called 'Night of 1000 Dinners.' On November 30, 1000 din ners will be held in 20 countries with the proceeds dedicated to mine action. "The . Prime M inister and celebrities such as Paul McCartney are fully supportive of this event" , said O 'Dea, "anyone can hold a dinner, however large or small, on that night by registering on the web site www.1000dinners.com."
