After enjoying a beautiful Muskoka sunset on Friday, Gerard Edward Diamond passed away suddenly at O akville-Trafalgar M em orial Hospital on Sunday, June 30, 2001. He w ill be greatly missed by his wife of 36 years, Joanne (nee Schenck); sons Steve, Tim, Mark and wife Patti, and Chris; and his many "outlaws' in St. Catharines and elsewhere. Gerry is a native of Kingston and enjoyed splitting his time between the family home in Oakville and the cottage in Muskoka. An avid sailor, Gerry was a proud member of the Kingston Yacht Club. His strong family commitment, sense of humour and caring generosity w ill be forever cherished by his family and many friends. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Andrew's C atholic Church in O akville on Wednesday, July 4 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the Diamonds ask that everyone dedicate a family night to Gerry and spend some time with the ones you love. Peacefully in his sleep at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital on Friday, June 29. Much beloved husband for 54 years of Jennifer, dearest father of daughters Michelle Marriott (Arthur) of Buronga Australia, June Brand (Wayne Bosada) of Oakville, and son John Leaver-Power, Mississauga. Cherished Grandpa of Joseph, Jennifer and Shelley. Predeceased by son-inlaw David Brand and grandson Liam. John was born on January 8,1918 in Rosslyn Hill, London England to William Gerald Leaver and Ida Levine Leaver (nee West). He attended boarding school in Peshawar, India returning to England to attend London University. He left to jo in the R.A.F. in 1938 and flew in 254 Beaufighter Squadron. He ended his tour of duty in 1945 as Squadron Leader at North Weald, where he met Jennifer. They were married on September 28, 1946 at St. Gregory's Church, Cheltenham. John completed his Mechanical Engineering Degree at Glasgow University. He and Jennifer immigrated to Montreal in 1956 with their three children. In 1967 the family moved to Oakville where John founded Drive Line Inc, now situated on Wyecroft Road in Oakville He retired as President in 1991 but remained active on the Board of Directors. John was an active member of St. Dominic's Parish in different groups: St. Vincent de Paul Society, Christian Meditation, and the Renew Program. John's hobbies included fishing, camping, tennis, cross-country skiing, photography, and bridge. John was a very creative person and his workshop, known as the 'holy of holies' knew no limits. He was a generous man with a great sense of humour, and tenacious in spirit. John will be fondly remembered and greatly missed by many. Funeraf Mass was held 11:00a.m,, Tuesday July 3 at St. Dominicfs Church, with arrangements by Kopriva Taylor Funeral Home (905-844-2600).
