Olsen said he does, too. However, since the site is zoned com mercial, it's best to negotiate future uses. Franklin said a day care would be "most compatible with the neighbour hood." "Our hands are tied," said Franklin. Meanwhile, Iroquois Ridge Secondary School principal Leona Woods said, "It's fair to say we are con cerned." ' Woods said there's concern about stu dent safety; the temptation to loiter that could tarnish the school's reputation; and, students leaving school property when short lunch periods now discour age that. Woods said the school would prefer office uses at such a mall. `T o have a strip mall right across from one of the high school's entrances just strikes me as a rather difficult situation," said Woods. The councillor urged attendance on June 14 and said a June 21st meeting is planned between the residents and developer. Wright also fears the plaza may impact business at the Upper Oakville Shopping Centre at Upper Middle Road and Eighth Line. "Residents have been fighting this for 16 years and waiting for the day some one was going to make a move. It appears that day has come," said Wright. On Friday, June 1, Franklin wrote to residents, that while the developer wants to "develop the site in a way that works for the neighbourhood," it's believed res idential development is not financially viable. Following the completion and opening of Highway 407, there is likely to be an increased vehicle dem and on the Fourth Line Valley crossing that would have an impact on the safe operation o f the road. Within several years, the growth in Fourth Line vehicle dem and will be accommodated to the James Snow Parkway Extension to be completed across the valley in accordance with the Environmental Assessment Report, approved in 1999. In the interim period before that roadway is completed, the safe operation of Fourth Line through the Glenorchy area is a concern. The study area is shown on the key plan below. The study is being carried out as a Class Environmental Assessment following the requirements of the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act, R .S .0 .1997. A public information centre was held on March 6, 2001 to review the alternative improvements for consideration, analysis and evaluation of the alternatives and the technically preferred alternative.
