At the end of the month, the group will be playing at The Fest in Gainesville, Fla., alongside Burlington band The Penske File. Afterwards, the two bands will perform a two-week showcase tour that will take them through various U.S. states and cities, including New York City. "We're anxiously awaiting our first U.S tour," said Zack Carlan, who plays guitar for Dead Broke. "This fall, we'll have the privilege to play a truly iconic punk festival, in Gainesville, Florida, while also entering new territory as a band." Carlan said touring with his friends in threepiece, folk-tinged punk band The Penske File makes the tour that much more memorable. "Ever since we were young teenagers just getting into punk rock we dreamed of travelling to punk rock, mecca known as `The Fest.' Now, to be playing, is a dream come true." A rite of passage For Dead Broke bandmember and vocalist Michael Bright, playing at The Fest is "a punk rock rite of passage." "We're excited to join the ranks of many bands who have inspired us in playing The Fest," he continued. "Our first-year anniversary of our record release is creeping up, we will actually be playing in New York City on the exact day. It just goes to show that with a little perseverance you never know where you'll end up." Dead Broke also released a new music video on YouTube last week to promote its upcoming tour. The group officially started with bandOakville band Dead Broke -- with bandmembers Zack Carlan (guitar); Michael Bright (vocals and guitar); Evan Saunders (drums); and Rachel Bright (bass) -- will be performing at The Fest in Gainesville, Fla., at the end of October alongside Burlington band The Penske File. In 2011, the band added Carlan (of Oakville) on bass and released their first record independently, which sent them to the U.K. for a string of shows. Bassist Rachel Bright was added to round out Dead Broke in 2013 to take over bass and allow Carlan to transition into lead guitar. "We refined our sound to high-energy, rock n' roll and have been on the road ever since," said Carlan. The band has been actively touring since 2012 and taking stages across North America and the U.K. "Since we released our self-titled record, we've been professionally touring as a means to share our music and bring entertainment to diverse venues and towns," said Carlan. Dead Broke returned to Oakville earlier in June for the all-ages JUNEBUG music festival after returning from an east coast tour.
