www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Thursday, December 3, 2015 | 12 Halton Highlights 2015 Active transportation keeping Halton moving One of the reasons Halton is such a great place to live is our commitment to delivering high-quality infrastructure, including a comprehensive transportation system. On November 12, Regional Council endorsed, in principle, the Halton Region Active Transportation Master Plan (ATMP), which will provide Halton with the required strategy and infrastructure initiatives to promote nonmotorized travel throughout the region to the year 2031. Through the ATMP, Halton Region will work together with our Local Municipal partners to help build a safe, affordable, sustainable and efficient transportation network that encourages walking and cycling. The ATMP is designed to support policies and growth set out in the Halton Transportation Master Plan (TMP) -- the Road to Change, aimed at delivering a balanced and multi-modal transportation system serving all road users, including cyclists and pedestrians. The proposed plan would implement over 800 kilometres of new on-road and off-road active transportation infrastructure, including bike lanes, sidewalks and multi-use trails. Be prepared in case of a winter weather emergency Are you prepared in case of an emergency? Sudden or severe winter storms can happen at any time. Your best defence is to be prepared. Heavy snow can cause delays and accidents due to slippery roads and stranded vehicles. Winter storms can down power lines, make travel difficult and cause power outages, leaving you without essential services. While Halton Region and our partners are committed to keeping residents safe, emergency preparedness is a shared responsibility and individuals have an important role to play.
