www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Thursday, December 10, 2015 | 28 Securing Bruce Power's Role in Our Energy Future is Good News for Ontario Bruce Power and the Province of Ontario have announced a longterm framework, consistent with Ontario's Long Term Energy Plan, to secure the electricity generated from the Bruce Power site, helping to meet the needs of families and businesses for years to come as part of a modern, balanced and clean energy system. This confirms Bruce Power nuclear will continue to provide affordable, reliable electricity to meet about a third of Ontario's energy needs, while making important investments that will grow our economy and secure thousands of jobs. Bruce Power will continue to achieve this by generating clean, reliable electricity at a cost well below the average rate paid by Ontario businesses and families. Bruce Power's investment program will ensure the continued renewal of Ontario's nuclear fleet supporting hundreds of businesses large and small throughout Ontario. This longterm framework will also provide stability so these businesses can continue to innovate and invest in their people through training and new technologies. Thousands of highly-skilled jobs will be created, from apprentices to engineers, to help grow strong communities and a strong Ontario for the long-term. Bruce Power will continue to play a positive role, contributing to a strong economy and environment, demonstrating that Ontario can find win-win energy solutions. Bruce Power has doubled its output over the last decade, providing 70% of the energy needed to meet the largest greenhouse gas reduction program in North America the phase-out of coal. If we are serious about climate change we need Bruce Power nuclear which is not only clean but the only flexible nuclear in Ontario to meet changing system needs. Ontario needs a balanced electricity system consisting of a range of sources and while we are not advocating nuclear for all of our energy needs, we the undersigned, are firm in our conviction that Bruce Power nuclear is an essential component to a balanced, clean and affordable energy future and that securing Bruce Power's role in our energy future is good news for Ontario.
