Town council approved a report on Monday night recommending free bus service from 7 p.m. on Dec. 31, 2015 until 4 a.m. on Jan. 1, 2016. Along with free bus rides, Oakville Transit will offer expanded hours of service -- starting mid-afternoon on Dec. 31 and extending into the late night/ early morning on New Year's Eve. "Our hope is by offering free transit service on New Year's Eve, residents will take the bus rather than drive," Mayor Rob Burton said. "It's our way of encouraging road safety in an effort to have everyone arrive home safely."
