For a less permanent colour hit, add a mix of vibrant pillows to the sofa. 2. Add character by using a variety of patterns, textures, fabrics and organic shapes. Think flocked wallpaper, hand-loomed throws and shapely mirrors or light fixtures. 3. Mix and match materials, finishes, appliances and hardware like wood, stone, glass and metals. Adding a faucet with a unique finish, like Delta's New Aged Pewter, creates a welcoming contrast when paired with a vessel sink, luxurious countertop or traditional dark cabinetry. 4. Blend the scale of modern with classic proportions. Update grandmother's antique hutch with a modern lamp or contemporary accessory. Introduce a common element, like vintage glass or chic new stainless steel, to pull the room together. 5. Design with technology by incorporating media walls into living spaces or, creating one-of-a-kind digital art to showcase in your home.
