O akville Public Library is kicking off 2016 with a variety of special events to inform, inspire and entertain. The library is hosting numerous creative and literacy-enriching programs this month. Back by popular demand is the library's LEGO Contest. From Jan. 4 to Feb. 5, children aged six to 12 are invited to use their imaginations and submit unique LEGO designs. The top 30 finalists will be invited to participate in a LEGO Championship on Feb. 27 featuring LEGO-inspired activities and an official awards ceremony. The library has also continued its partnership Oakville Public Library kicks off 2016 with LEGO contest, author visits with St. John Ambulance to offer its Paws 4 Stories program, which offers struggling readers a chance to improve their literacy by reading aloud with a PET Therapy dog. Paws 4 Stories is free and geared toward children six to 12 years; registration can be completed by calling the Iroquois Ridge Branch, with 30-minute sessions beginning Jan. 11. The library will also present numerous bestselling authors and notable public figures, including financial expert & TV host Gail VazOxlade (Feb 10). The popular Books & Beer event returns Feb. 19, where staff present their favourite books over local craft beer and appetizers. This year's theme is `Popcorn Reads' -- books that have been turned into movies will be featured. Cst. Aaron Sheedy and Sgt.
