The Tartan Terrors is a traveling group of highland dancers, originally formed by brother/sister duo Ellen and Ian Irmisch of Burlington's Sun dance Studios. The group performs its musical-comedy revue at numerous North American festivals, including a stint in Oakville each summer. In each city, children from local dance schools are encouraged to audition for guest roles in the show. This year's Ceilidh, which means "party" in Gaelic, includes 40 enter tainers ages five and up who will pre sent highland dancing and piping, the atrical performances and comedy rou tines. Wales is one of those performers, one who has maintained a hectic schedule each day for over a month, setting off for her day job each morn ing, followed by rehearsals in the late afternoon/early evening, and then cos tume sewing when she returns home. "My work has been really, really understanding about my schedule," she says, adding that most o f the other staff members are planning to see her at her other job by attending the show. And the show, she says, hasn't changed much in its five-year history, except for the band. The original band focused on traditional pipe and drum music, while the new one, introduced last year, plays "a little more rock-androll Celtic." That change, she adds, seemed to attract a younger audience. The Tartan Terrors are performing a benefit show in aid of Breast Cancer Support Services and the United Way tonight. Public performances will be held at 8 p.m. on Aug. 16, 17 and 18, with tickets available for $25.99 at the Oakville Centre box office, 130 Navy St.; 905-815-2021.
