`The little charity that could' has a heartfelt purpose continued from p.20 Carolyn said each year, she continues to be overwhelmed by the support and generosity she has received from the community. She said one of her son's friends from school gave them four courtside Toronto Raptors tickets. "That's basically $1,000 a ticket and they've donated them for our silent auction and I'm just dumbfounded because I'm the little charity that could," she said. "I'm just trying to honour my son and support this hospital, and this family heard my story and wanted to donate them and I'm just so humbled and overwhelmed by that." Carolyn added the money helps support a hospital that has not only meant so much to them personally, but to so many other families across Ontario. "That hospital represents hope to me because I walked through those halls many times with Luke on my shoulders and I would look at these children and I didn't see sick children necessarily, but I saw hope," she said. "These children may be hooked up to IVs and machines, but they always have smiles for the nurses and doctors. Unfortunately, for us, Luke didn't survive, but so many kids do because of care they receive there, so it's important to me that the hospital gets the support it deserves to help other children." About one in every 100 children is born with a heart defect in Canada, added Carolyn, 21 | Thursday, February 4, 2016 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com I'm just dumbfounded. Carolyn says her family continues to miss Luke, but is happy they can honour him every year through Luke's Legacy. Even Jackson, who never met his older brother, has grown up with Luke a part of his life -- he has a photo of Luke in his room.
