The 2002 is in a whole different league. It is a topline sports sedan in every way. With lots of power in reserve and a leading edge suspension (the rear is based on the Nissan Skyline high performance GT car), the Altima gets up and x goes big time. Braking is measured with the pedal nicely weighted, in spite of the Brake Assist. Nissan equates the 2002 Altima to Camry V6 (194 hp) and Accord V6 (200 hp). I would have thought Lexus IS300 and perhaps Audi A4 2.7 would have been better. With the performance of a sports sedan but the price of a compact, Altima is going to change a lot of perceptions Nissan Altim a 2002 at a Glance Body Style: Four-door mid-size sedan Engine: 2.5-litre DOHC inline four-cylinder (180 hp, 181 lb/ft); 3.5-litre DOHC V6 (240 hp, 246 lb/ft) Fuel Economy: NA Price: 2.5-litre, five-speed manual $23,498; w /autom atic $24,498, 3.5-litre five-speed $27,698, 3.5-litre four-speed automatic $28,998. This is achieved through improved initial acceleration in electric launch -- when the vehi cle takes off using the electric motors and bat tery -- and improved overall system efficiency during highway driving. The system was developed by Ford and Aisin AW, based in Aichi, Japan. Escape HEV combines an electric motor and fuel-efficient, four-cylinder gasoline engine and is designed to be the most fuel-efficient sport utility on the planet. With regenerative braking and nearly instan taneous start-stop capability, the Escape HEV will be especially fuel efficient in the city, deliv ering nearly 40 miles per gallon in urban driving. The hybrid electric Escape will be capable o f being driven more than 500 miles on a single tank of gasoline. Yet the innovative hybrid powertrain will deliver acceleration per formance similar to an Escape equipped with the 200 horsepower, V-6 gasoline engine. The PowerSmart transaxle further improves performance by offering many of the benefits of a continuously variable transmission, including nearly seamless shifting. The driver uses a familiar floor shifter with selections for Park, Reverse, Neutral, Drive and Low, but virtually all of these functions operate differently. The point is that these operations are seamless to the driver, who operates the vehicle in a familiar, comfortable way While a few automakers have introduced small, low-volume hybrid-electric cars, Ford is introducing its first HEV in a family-sized sport utility to increase mass customer appeal. The hybrid-electric powertrain also has been developed with additional applications and vehi cles in mind to expand the potential impact of the environmentally responsible technology. The PowerSmart system incorporates tech nology developed by Volvo and Aisin AW for the Dual Hybrid Electric System for Increased Efficiency and Economy (DESIREE) program, which debuted at the Geneva Auto Show in 1999. The P2000 hydrogen internal com bustion engine (H2ICE) concept vehi cle offers dram atically decreased emission levels and improved engine efficiency. The ease of manufacture and simi larity in operation to gasoline products means hydrogen ICEs could be used to encourage the growth of a hydrogen fueling infrastructure while the tech nology for long-term transportation solutions, such as hydrogen fuel cells, continues to mature. Ford's P2000 H2ICE uses a modi fied version of the Zetec 2.0-litre gasoline engine found in Ford's Focus. The engine's efficiency is improved by 25-30 per cent over its gasoline counterpart. The vehicle is currently equipped with a conventional fuel storage sys tem containing 87 litres of hydrogen at a pressure of 3,600 psi for an operat ing range of 62 miles. Engineers will soon install an upgraded fuel storage system designed to increase range to 150 miles or more. Using clean-burning hydrogen as a fuel, H2ICE emissions are a fraction of those from conventional gasoline engines. Although there is a small amount of carbon dioxide (C 02) gas emissions resulting from the engine oil present in the. cylinders of modem engines, it would take over 300 H2ICE vehicles to emit the same amount of C 0 2 as one gasoline fueled vehicle. Hydrocarbon (HC) and carbon monoxide (CO) regulated emissions are one-tenth of SULEV requirements. Nitric oxide (NOx) regulated emis sions are one-fourth that of gasoline and with moderate after treatment would certify at SULEV levels as well. at 7.75' tor 41 Moons at O' terV M oatlu you CAN SAVE UPTOr >2.492.64 '3.323.68 '4,154.72 '4.985.76 <5.816.80 s0 '0 s0 >0 `0 ' 2,492.64 ' 3,323.68 '4,154.72 '4,985.76 '5,816.80 p e r m o n th with $ 4 ,7 4 5 d o w n p a ym e n t, $ 3 2 5 security a nd $ 9 5 5 freight Or cash p u r c h a s e * 2 3 , 2 0 0 " W indstar is the only m inivan to earn a fiv e Star Crash Test Rating seven years in a raw fo r front im pact for both driver and front passenger in U.S. Government testin g.} 36 MONTH LEASE % 48 MONTH PURCHASE FINANCING ON ALL REMAINING NEW 2001 EXPLORER SPORT & 4-DOOR 36 MONTH LEASE Z-rJ-- - J WELCOME Cliff Fraser Mr. Rick Solwicki, President of Terrace Ford Lincoln, is pleased to announce the appointment of Cliff Fraser as New Car Sales Manager.
