McLeod announces she'll run for council in Ward 2 by David Lea Oakville Beaver Staff 13 | Friday, February 26, 2016 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com Former Miss Mississauga-turned-Oakvilleparalegal Julie McLeod announced Wednesday she will join the race for the Ward 2 Town council seat. McLeod, who lives in Ward 5, but is a regular visitor to Kerr Village, said she is running for office because she believes that, if elected, she can bring out the best in the Ward 2 community. "I believe you deserve people who are committed to serving you in government, and as your councillor, I will listen to you. I will be your visible advocate. I am a go-to person. I'm the person friends call when they need someone who can help them see their way through bureaucracy and get things done," said McLeod, who launched her campaign Wednesday at Kerr Street Café. "I will be the voice of the people of Ward 2 at council and I will work together with Mayor (Rob) Burton to continue to make Oakville the best town it can be." McLeod, who represented Mississauga in the 1982 Miss Canada Pageant, has worked as an actress, appearing in such productions as Police Academy, How to Lose a Guy in Ten Days, The Associates and several Canadian comedies such as Wayne and Shuster and Bizarre. She said continually facing the financial the campaign trail having volunteered on campaigns during the last 30 years including those of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Ontario Labour Minister and Oakville MPP Kevin Flynn and Ward 5 Councillor Marc Grant. The 20-year Oakville resident has also served as co-chair of TEDx Oakville, a nonprofit organization devoted to spreading ideas, usually in the form of short, powerful talks; and worked as provincial sales manager for glasses supplier Vuarnet Canada.
