But it will continue to be home to the Royal Canadian G olf Association (RCGA) head offices for the foreseeable future. The Bell Canadian Open was held at Royal M ontreal this year, with Scott Verplank win ning, but previous to that it had been held at Glen Abbey every year but two since 1977, including Tiger W ood's thrilling win in 2000 with his `shot of the year' from a fairway banker on the 18th hole. In 1999, the RCGA sold Glen Abbey, Canada's flagship public course, to Club Link. On Tuesday, both the RCGA and Club Link, in a joint press release, said they "are working together for a scheduled opening of spring 2003 of the RCGA's new national head office at Glen Abbey." Details and design o f the new facility will be announced at a later date. RCGA spokesperson Chad Schella con firmed the agreement is a 10-year lease with three five-year options. The release also said that "it is expected that Golf House and the Canadian Golf Hall o f Fame will be renovated and maintained on the existing site." In the meantime, the RCGA will temporar ily relocate its offices to Sheridan Park Research Center in Mississauga, effective from Nov. 6. As well, the Golf Hall of Fame will be closed to the public until June 2003 during the construction and renovations. It remains open by appointment through to December. Next year's Bell Canadian Open is at Angus Glen in Markham and the 2003 site is still undetermined, said Schella. He also said the site for a new stadium course for the Toronto area, to replace Glen Abbey, has not been decided upon by the RCGA. Must present coupon. E xpires O ct. 31/01 Friday night's NWHL game is postponed This Friday's National Women's Hockey League game between Mississauga Ice Bears and Durham, scheduled for 7:15 p.m. at Ice Sports Oakville, has been postponed. It's kind of a good news story, actually. The Canadian national women's team, preparing in Calgary for this winter's Salt Lake City Olympics, has assembled an all-star team, primarily from NW HL teams, for a two-game series, starting this weekend. The M ississauga Ice Bears already have contributed captain Therese Brasson to the Olympic team and they're also sending three players to the all-star team, including former national team member (and dearly hoping to get back) Nathalie Rivard as well as Cathy McCormack and Jen Rawson, who was captain of the University of Toronto women's team last year. The Ice Bears brain trust has a decidedly Oakville flavour, includ ing team owner/president Bill Metcalfe, head coach Steve Blundy and assistant coach Greg Carr, Oakville MPP. Metcalfe said he will try to reschedule the game in Oakville, preferably for a Saturday night. From that point on there- was a lot of action in front of both nets, and in hot pursuit, the Blades' Chris Brussa-Toi got a quick goal with 6:50 left in the second, to give Oakville a 2-1 lead. Chris Riddell scored the final Oakville goal early in the third period, and although Brampton came back to score one, lowering the Oakville lead, the defence managed to thwart the Capitals and prevent goals on other high percentage opportunities. The confidence of the team is really starting to shine through, and big wins like Friday's really help. Head Coach Jay Anderson was very happy with the win and the way his team has been playing as of late. "It's great to put a string of games together," said coach Anderson. "We've won five of our last six games. It's nice for the players to get confidence and believe in themselves. They are starting to believe they can win because they've bought into the systems." .x The Blades traveled to Mississauga last night to take on the Chargers and attempt to extend their winning streak. The game went beyond our press deadline. The Blades are in Milton Friday night,. 8 p.m. Next home game is Sunday, Oct. 28 against the Georgetown Raiders.
