The Oakville Beaver, Wednesday October 24, 2001 - D 5 B e s t W h e e l s · O a k v i l l e Nov. 12 opening anticipated Lexus dealership nears completion By Angela Blackburn OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF fter a year of dreaming and planning, the open ing of Oakville's new Lexus dealership is a reality that's now only a few weeks away. "We should be opening the week o f Nov. 12," said the deal ership's new president and gen eral manager Frank Apa, who has headed O akville Toyota since 1991. Lexus of Oakville will be the upscale relation o f Oakville Toyota, and one of six new, exclusively Lexus dealerships being built in Canada. "It will be the first in Ontario," said Apa of the dealer ship located on Wyecroft Road just east of Bronte Road. Finishing touches are now being wrapped up. Steel panels and stucco are being added to the building's exterior. Inside, drywalling is finished and the service department is 99% done. "They're just finishing the showroom, the painting tiles and the dropped ceiling. It's very high-end and w e're not prepared to rush it. We want it done right," said Apa. That's because this new deal ership will offer Toyota's highend products. Lexus rolled onto the assem bly line only 11 years ago and today it's second only to Mercedes in the high-end luxury car market, according to the new dealership's service m anager Denis Therrien. "No one expected it," said Therrien, who has been with Toyota 14 years. Therrien believes it's only a matter o f tim e until Lexus scoops the number one position from Mercedes and that the only obstacle is not product quality, but rather the tradition of M ercedes, which has been around for more than 100 years. Everold Reid, the new deal ership's general sales manager, who boasts an outstanding record of achievement in both sales and customer service in his seven years with Toyota and Lexus, is ready for the new deal ership's team to make its mark on the Halton market in cus tomer service. A "I think we're going to be even more successful than we think," predicted Reid. Already nearly a dozen vehicles have been ordered and the dealership hasn't even opened its doors. "Personally, this is the first time I've ever been involved in building a dealership from the ground up," said Apa, admitting nervous tension is mounting as opening day draws near. With construction details set ting the opening back from its anticipated October opening, to mid-November, Apa admitted it's been a "large, difficult proj ect." But hopefully one that will be well worth it. A pa's growing excitement is shared among the 15 staff and four additional support staff at Oakville Toyota. The Oakville Lexus dealer ship will be the second stand alone Lexus dealership to open in Canada. One is already doing busi ness in Vancouver, and more are slated to open in Montreal and Ontario over the next year. "Speculation, and I stress the word speculation, that the auto industry may feel a bit of a downturn didn't prevent us from completing this project," said Apa. H e's confident with the Lexus product and the Oakville/Burlington market. "I don't anticipate any eco nomic factors to im pact the business. It's the right vehicle, the right market and we have the right team," said Apa. Lexus o f Oakville will repre sent a choice for those local lux ury car buyers who have at least $40,000 to spend. Until now, they have had to travel to Mississauga or St. Catharines to buy a Lexus. It's the big brother, so to speak, o f O akville Toyota, w hich has been in Oakville since the early 1970s. The latter's outstanding customer serv ice achievement is a major rea son why Oakville was chosen as one o f the new Lexus dealership sites, said Apa. That, and of course, the fact that Oakville represents a solid luxury car market. Until now, Lexus vehicles have been sold from combined Toyota-Lexus dealerships. President and General Manager of Lexus of Oakville, Denis Therrien, Service Operations Manager, Craig Dean, Parts Operations Manager, and Everold Reid, General Sales M anager. x The new $4.5 m illion Oakville dealership is a "bold, new concept" for Lexus, admit ted Apa. Lexus of Oakville is located on a tw o-acre site at 2475 Wyecroft Road and shares the neighbourhood with luxury car dealers like Jaguar, Volvo and BMW. Frequent visitors to the weekly site inspections have been Yoshio Nakatani, president o f Lexus Canada, and Tony Wearing, group vice-president o f sales and marketing for Lexus Canada. The new 16.000-sq.-ft., stateof-the-art facility will be home to a luxurious Lexus lounge, a deluxe seven-car showroom and a well-equipped, two-bay cus tomer service area. New car buyers will even take delivery of their purchases from inside the showroom. Circon Contracting put shov els went into the ground last spring on the project designed by R.H. Carter Architects.
