10 - The Oakville Beaver W eekend, Sunday N o vem b er 11, 2001 Bronte Butterfly Foundation elects new executive The Bronte Butterfly Foundation (BBF) volunteer Board of Directors has elected its new Executive. Halton Regional Police Superintendent Paul Cormier and long time Bronte resident is the new Chair. Though Cormier recendy moved to Burlington from Oakville, he is excited to return to Bronte in his new leadership role to help build the Butterfly Park and winter skateway for residents and visitors to Halton. The new Vice-Chair is Kevin Barry, Engineering Manager for Petro-Canada. An Oakville resi dent, Barry is also spearheading the Engineering Team of the Butterfly Foundation in its efforts to build the gazebo as soon as approvals, permits and funds are in place. Target date is Spring 2002. Barry Wylie, Vice-President, Finance, Lyreco (Canada) Inc., an office products supplier, and another long time resident of Oakville and Bronte, is the new Treasurer. Additional members new to the Bronte Butterfly Foundation Board of Directors this past year include Monty Brown, retired P.Eng., Ennisclare, Angelo Serafini, lawyer, Oakville, and Dr. Bill Mcflveen, retired Ministry of the Environment and Acton resi dent. More recently Lou Piovesan, Director of the Halton Catholic District School Board, from Burlington, and Oakville resident Ian Rankin, Managing Partner, O A K V IL L E < 905>845-6601 PESTICIDE USE ON PRIVATE LANDS N o t ic e o f P u b lic M e e tin g On November 13, 2001, the Parks and Recreation Department will be submitting an update report to the Community Services Committee on pesticides. This report will summarize the recent Supreme Court decision on Hudson, Quebec and identify future discussions related to pesticide use on private lands. Absent were Lou Piovesan, Ian Rankin and Barry Wylie. Henderson Rankin Associates Inc., a professional sales and marketing organization, have joined the Butterfly Board. Directors returning for a sec ond term include Ward 1 Regional Councillor Kevin Flynn and Ward 1 Town Councillor Ralph Robinson and Lee Bernard, Owner, Wanderers Imports and Past Chair of the Butterfly Foundation. Joyce Savoline, Chairman, Region of Halton con tinues as Honourary Chair. Susan Sheppard, former Director of Development for the Bronte Butterfly Foundation, has become the first Executive Director of this registered charita ble organization. For $25, the Bronte Butterfly Foundation offers a unique thank you to donors with an inscribed paver in the park, trees and bench es are also available. With both large and small tax deductible con tributions to the Butterfly Foundation, a living legacy for all to enjoy will be created. The Bronte Butterfly Foundation is a not for profit, reg istered charitable organization with a mandate to create an interactive learning environment for children and visitors to Halton. This natural butterfly park and winter skateway will be built on the shores of Lake Ontario alongside historical Bronte Harbour in southwest Oakville.
